London attractions: Learn about The Lady with the Lamp at the Florence Nightingale Museum

Published: Sunday 12th of August 2012

The Florence Nightingale Museum is one of many fantastic London attractions, and is the place to be for those wanting to learn more about the life of the iconic nurse.

The 'Lady with the Lamp' became famous when she tirelessly led the nurses caring for thousands of injured soldiers during the Crimean War.

However, not many people know that Florence was also a health reformer, and made many key changes in her life that allowed healthcare to become what it is today.

It could be argued that her greatest achievement was to make nursing a respectable profession for a woman to enter, and she also penned a great many writings which had a significant impact in both England and the world.

At the museum, visitors will discover artefacts that were important in Florence's life, from the slate she used as a child to her pet owl Athena and the iconic Turkish lantern she used during the Crimean war.
