London attractions: Learn about The Lady with the Lamp at the Florence Nightingale Museum
Published: Wednesday 9th of January 2013
The Lady with the Lamp is one of the most famous heroines in history and people looking for things to do in London could learn more about the iconic nurse at the Florence Nightingale Museum.
One of the most influential women of Victorian Britain, the nurse worked tirelessly to make nursing a respectable profession for females and inspired countless people to follow in her footsteps.
At the museum visitors can relive her childhood, her experience of the Crimean war and her pioneering work that made nursing what it is today.
Highlights of the collection include Florence's slate she used as a young girl, her pet owl Athena and the Turkish lantern she used during the Crimean War.
There are also plenty of interactive displays allowing visitors to browse photographs, sounds, maps, films and stories of various characters and the people who knew and worked with Florence over the years.
