London attractions: Guard’s museum teams up with Royal Armouries

Published: Tuesday 26th of February 2013

If you are looking for cultural things to do in London, then why not pop down to the Guard’s Museum which has recently collaborated with the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

The museums will be working on joint projects together to enhance the experience of visitors to those attractions.
One such event is the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo in 2015.

This battle marked a turning point for British Guards who warded off a French attack and were finally allowed to wear their trademark bearskin caps.

Andrew Wallis, curator at the Guard’s Museum, said that his organisation was impressed and inspired by the projects at the Royal Armouries.

He added: “This is a momentous day for The Guards Museum. The Royal Armouries rightly enjoys a superb reputation in the museum world and this symbiotic relationship will deliver significant benefits to both institutions.”

The London Guard’s Museum was originally created for the education of new Guardsmen but is now available for the public to enjoy.

So if you fancy taking a step back in history to learn more about one of the UK’s most fascinating military units, then the Guard’s Museum should be on your list of top London attractions.
