London attractions: GB Row 2013 set to entertain visitors this summer
Published: Monday 3rd of June 2013
The GB Row 2013 is well underway, providing plenty of much needed entertainment and things to do in London for visitors.
This is one of the most celebrated boat races in the country and every year it attracts a raft of ambitious new competitors hoping to beat the current finish record of 26 days, 21 hours and 14 minutes.
The GB Row Challenge has been described as one of the toughest rowing races in the world and attracts a prize of £100,000 for those who break the current world record, while the winning team gets to take home £15,000.
Eight rowing boats began the treacherous 2,000-mile journey around Britain all hoping to be crowned champions in this year's competition.
Many of those who are participating in the race are aiming to raise money for charity. The crews who embark upon this journey will certainly have their hands full and will go head-to-head with other rowers, dangerous tides and busy shipping lanes that are used by industrial fishing trawlers and car ferries.
The teams are made up of ordinary men and women throughout the country who put in arduous amounts of time, training and practice ahead of the big finale.
It is certainly an event not to be missed and if you plan to visit London over the next month or so, you may just catch glimpses of the rowers wading their way across the river Thames in anticipation of the £100,000 record-breaking prize.
But do you know what the great thing is? Not only do you get to watch one of the biggest boat races in the country - and possibly the world - you also get to take part!
Ok, ok if you don't quite fancy donning a wetsuit and battling it out with other rowers, then why not enjoy a leisurely Thames river cruise or embark upon a Jason's Canal Boat trip? Both tours will allow you to sit back, relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city as you glide along the riverbank. So what are you waiting for?
