London attractions: Celebrate the Queen at Windsor Castle

Published: Friday 14th of December 2012

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee year is drawing to a close, but that does not mean we have to stop celebrating the monarch, and there are many London attractions offering just such an opportunity - including Windsor Castle.

This is one London attraction that is not to be missed on a royal tour of the capital, as it is the Queen's official residence, not to mention the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world.

History buffs are also well-catered for on a visit to the castle as it is almost 1,000 years old - an age bound to give anyone chills.

Currently showing at the castle is The Queen: Portraits of a Monarch, which is running until Sunday June 9th 2013.

The Queen is the most pictured woman in the world, with numerous artists including Cecil Beaton, Pietro Annigoni and Lucian Freud depicting her over the years.

This exhibition presents a selection of official, formal and commissioned portraits of the Queen, which have come from a number of royal residences.
