London attractions: The London Transport Museum gives people a glimpse behind the scenes

People looking for things to do in London could consider a trip to the London Transport Museum, which gives visitors an inside look at how people get around in the capital.

In the new year people can go behind the scenes at the Museum Depot with a guided tour.

The impressive depot holds an amazing 370,000 objects, including rare road and rail vehicles from more than 100 years of transport.

One particular highlight is the famous poster and artwork stores, which house bus and rail sheds, signs, ceramic tiles, ephemera and ticket machines.

It was over a century ago now that Frank Pick commissioned the first graphic poster, which was entitled 'No need to ask a P'liceman' and was designed by John Hassall in 1908.

This was just the first in a long line of famous pieces commissioned by London Transport and created by great artists including Man Ray, Abraham Games and Edward McKnight Kauffer.
