London attractions: See the moving Adi Nes exhibition at the Jewish Museum

Published: Thursday 6th of December 2012

The Jewish Museum is hosting the first ever UK show of famous Israeli photographer Adi Nes, giving people looking for things to do in London a fantastic chance to learn more about the artist.

In Adi Nes: The Village, the artist has created a fictional village, combining staged pastoral images with an underlying anxiety.

The artist explains: “Like the State of Israel, this village appears as a small place created in the wake of tragedy. It’s an idyllic valley with wide vistas, green fields and trees full of fruit yet with a charged atmosphere.”

Visitors will no doubt be moved by the exhibition, which utilises moving themes of Greek tragedy and myth, highlighting the villagers' isolation and utopianism.

Photographs in the collection appear to be captured either before or after an action takes place, allowing for personal interpretations of them.

The exhibition is running until January 20th 2013.
