London attractions: See the evolution of aviation at the Royal Air Force Museum
Published: Wednesday 12th of December 2012
The world-class aircraft collection features countless highlights, including a life-sized model of a F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jet. This is the only place in the world where it is on display.
Visitors will get chills as they listen to Winston Churchill give his Battle of Britain speech from his office in 10 Downing Street.
They can also view the Royal Wessex - a helicopter fit for a Queen, visit the Battle of Britain Hall, which tells the story of the world's first decisive air battle, and Bomber Hall, which looks at the evolution of the bomber since it first made an appearance in World War One.
When at any military museum, it is important to take time to think about the soldiers who have given their lives for their country. Bomber Hall is in part a memorial to the 131,000 young men who died during the combined bombing offensive.
