London attractions: Learn about the royal river Thames at the National Maritime Museum

The Royal River exhibition at the National Maritime Museum is a particular treat for people seeking things to do in London.

Running from April 27th until September 9th 2012, the display will celebrate the famous river Thames, looking at themes of power and pageantry, and how it has been used over the years.

The fascinating exhibition has been created to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, and will emphasise the relationship between the river and various monarchs.

Visitors to the museum will discover 500 years of Britain's encounters with the world at sea, with inspirational stories and tales of discovery and adventure.

Highlights include the uniform Nelson was wearing when he was fatally shot at the Battle of Trafalgar, and guests can also try their hand at firing a cannon, and steering a ship into port.

The Traders gallery explores Britain's maritime trade with Asia, with an emphasis on the famous East India Company.
