Learn about Charles I's execution at the Banqueting House for things to do in London
Published: Saturday 12th of January 2013
The historical attraction has a new display surrounding the execution of the monarch, who was killed on January 30th 1649 on a specially-constructed scaffold outside the Banqueting House.
He spent his final few hours in Whitehall Palace saying goodbye to his family before stepping out onto a scaffold.
The exhibition will tell the story of events leading up to his execution through a series of banners.
Under the stunning full length portrait of the king by Daniel Mytens, a short, moving film will show his final few hours. He spent this time saying goodbye to his youngest children and saying his prayers.
Design enthusiasts will also be delighted by a trip to the Banqueting House, which is described as "Inigo Jones's masterpiece of classical architecture".
