Get yourself in a festive mood with London attractions
Published: Wednesday 31st of October 2012
Many people head to London in the festive season to do some Christmas shopping and make sure all their loved ones get the best possible presents. While they're in the capital though, there are plenty of London attractions that are great at getting people in the seasonal mood.
If visitors are in London on a Christmas shopping trip then obviously the number one place they are going to get their festive kicks is at the capital's fabulous department stores, which always go all out for Christmas.
One that is guaranteed to get you humming Christmas tunes is John Lewis, which unfailingly has plenty of perfect gifts on offer. Situated in London's West End, the vast store features seven floors, which are home to half a million lines of fashion and homeware. Shoppers can browse pieces from some of the world's most famous designers, or opt for classic British favourites instead.
Another shopping favourite is Westfield London, which is situated in Sheppard's Bush and is choc full with more than 300 shops under one roof. Stores for everything from high street labels to top designers are featured at the West London mall. At the Village, shoppers will discover a mixture of delightful boutiques and cutting-edge designers. After a long day traipsing round the shops, visitors can sit back and relax at one of the mall's restaurants and eateries - there is an eclectic choice on offer.
People who fancy a super-Christmassy shopping experience can head over to Chelsea Physic Garden, which is holding a two-day Christmas Fair on December 1st and 2nd.
Visitors can browse the delightful grounds between 10am and 4pm on both days, picking up fabulous gifts for their friends and family. It is rare that London's oldest botanic garden opens its gates in winter, so as well as being a fabulous shopping opportunity, people get a rare chance to enjoy its picturesque winter scenery.
There are plenty of gifts on offer at the fair, including garden paraphernalia, unique jewellery, cashmere clothing, ceramics, handmade chocolates, chutneys, cheese and smoked salmon, children's clothes, exclusive leather goods and more.
The Christmas Fair will be held in large heated marquees situated in the Garden. There will be mouth-watering hot breakfasts, lunches, minced pies and mulled wine on offer, which will no doubt get visitors very much in the festive mood.
The Garden's Tangerine Dream Cafe is to take offers for special Christmas cakes and puddings, mince pies, game pies and baked hams - helping people to host the perfect festive bash.
Visitors who miss the Christmas market, however, should not fret, as the Garden is also offering some festive shopping days. From Tuesday 4th December until Friday 14th, the book and gift shop is to sell themed Christmas cards and a whole host of gifts. Why not pick up a Perpertual Calendar or a jigsaw? After that, visitors can go to the Tangerine Dream Cafe which will be serving a special Christmas menu.
