Once a year, the streets of London come to life with exotic dancing, celebration and the sweet-smelling scent of Jamaican food at one of Europe's largest Caribbean carnivals.
Notting Hill Carnival has become famous over the years for attracting visitors from all over the globe, who come together to see the creative costume displays, talented dancers and rhythmic soca music that has captured the imaginations of Brits for generations.
The history of the event is as rich and varied as the celebration itself. It started in the late 50s in response to the racial tension which existed at the time and has since gone on to become one of the most decorated multicultural festivals in the UK.
This year, it takes place from August 25th - 27th and is set to attract thousands of revellers. There is nothing quite like it in London, and once you've been, you are unlikely to forget the experience.
One of the things that visitors can expect from this celebration is an array of floats, steel bands, sound systems, costumes and non-stop dancing.
Imagine dancing around the streets of London behind a colourful float, or sampling some mouth-watering jerk chicken dishes and dumplings all day long.
Now stop imagining and get yourself down to London for the memorable occasion. Here's a breakdown of the event: first up is the children's day on Sunday 25th. This is the ideal day for families to go together, and is geared especially towards the little ones.
The following days are more suitable for adults, although you can bring the kids along too.
And while you're in London for the carnival, why not pay a visit to some of the other notable attractions in the area?
For example, the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising is also in Notting Hill, as is Portobello Road market.
If you are religious or spiritual, you can also visit St John's Church, which often opens its doors to visitors.
Meanwhile, be sure to pack your dancing shoes, and join the fun and festivities at Notting Hill.
