Explore history and art at St Paul's Cathedral for things to do in London
Published: Friday 18th of January 2013
People looking for things to do in London will want to consider a trip to St Paul's Cathedral - one of the iconic sights on the capital's skyline.
Designed by renowned architect Sir Christopher Wren, it was originally built between 1675 and 1710, and there is plenty of history to discover within its walls.
The highlight of the church is the incredible Whispering Gallery which is world-renowned for its remarkable acoustics. This is situated 30 metres above the cathedral floor.
Another 55 metres above this is the Golden Gallery, which offers stunning panoramic views of central London for those who have the energy to climb all the way up there.
What's more, there has never been a better time to see the church in all its glory, as it underwent a £40 million programme of cleaning and repair work for its 300th anniversary which was completed in June 2011.
Visitors who descend below the cathedral can see the stunning crypt which features the tombs and memorials of important historical figures including Admiral Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington.
