American football comes to the UK at Wembley stadium

Published: Monday 14th of October 2013

American football will this month be taking centre-stage at Wembley stadium - one of London's largest and most prestigious sporting venues.

On October 27th, the NFL will come to town for the next International Series matchup when the Jacksonville Jaguars play the San Francisco 49ers.

The NFL office in the UK is responsible for overseeing the continued development of professional American football in Britain and a number of regular season games have already been hosted at Wembley.

In fact, it was the first stadium to host an NFL game outside of North America and it now does so on an annual basis.

It also hosted the football finals at the 2012 London Olympics.

Wembley itself is really the powerhouse of football, whether that be normal English football or American.

The stadium was constructed in 2007 and took over four years to build at a cost of over £790 million and can seat around 90,000 people.

Visitors who are keen to visit this majestic sporting venue can take a Wembley stadium tour. This includes a guided walk around the venue, where guests can get to experience the tension of the tunnel which leads players out to the pitch before a big game and then climb the 107 steps to the Royal Box, where winners collect their trophy.

A tour across the stadium also includes the Exhibition of Champions, which is a free attraction that features football history.

But if you are planning a trip down to Wembley, why not stop by at Arsenal as well? When exploring the Emirates stadium, visitors can take a behind-the-scenes look at the tunnel to the media interview rooms, and all of the other key highlights of the stadium.

Here you will have the chance to hear from the stars themselves, during a self-guided audio tour, where you can listen to the roar of the crowd as you walk down the tunnel, and test your Arsenal knowledge.
