Rare bird spotted at one of the top London attractions
Published: Tuesday 11th of May 2010
A rare bird has been spotted at one of the top London attractions for nature lovers, it has emerged.
The bird which is believed to be a Pacific golden plover made an appearance at London Wetland Centre on May 2nd, the facility's website reports, sparking great interest among birdwatchers from the capital and beyond.
If it is indeed confirmed to have been a Pacific golden plover, then it would be the first recorded instance of the bird visiting London since 1900.
Twitchers have engaged in heated discussions about the bird's identity, with debate arising out of the fact that American and Pacific species of the bird are quite similar, while the Pacific golden plover is a more unusual visitor.
London Wetland Centre is located in Barnes and has been described by the BBC wildlife presenter Chris Packham as "one of the most important conservation projects of the past century".
