London attractions: Spring has sprung at the London Wetlands Centre
Published: Tuesday 29th of March 2011
Now that spring is arriving, it is the perfect time for people looking for things to do in London to see the natural wonders the capital offers.
The London Wetland Centre says spring is all around, with daffodils, butterflies and the first migratory songbirds appearing, while some staff have seen the first ducklings and goslings hatching.
Meanwhile, the first sand martins have been spotted, prompting work to install new cameras on the bank so that visitors will be able to watch them nesting.
The snakes' head fritillary meadow is also beginning to bloom at the London centre, providing a magical vision of the season to come.
"All of our centres will be open over the Easter and spring bank holidays so make sure you set aside some time to visit and get outdoors and up close to nature," said the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, which runs the site.
Covering some 42 hectares the London Wetland Centre is Europe's top urban wildlife site and is a place visitors can spot kingfishers, bitterns and bats, depending on the season.
