London Wetland Centre receives prestigious honour

Published: Sunday 18th of January 2009

A wet and wild London attraction has been honoured for its sustainable tourism credentials.

The London Wetland Centre in Barnes has been merited with a silver medal by the Green Tourism Awards, following a comprehensive assessment of its policies and practises.

Commenting on the award, acting centre manager Martin Senior was clearly pleased but insisted that there was no room for complacency and work was still to be done.

Mr Senior said: "We have made many changes to our everyday business practices to further improve our sustainability.

"But we are very much aware this is just the start and it is a work in progress.

"We excelled in some areas and fell short in others so there are areas for improvement over the coming months and years."

The centre received plaudits for its work in educating visitors on environmental and conservation matters.

It has said it will take on board the suggestions made by the awarding body and work towards improvements in the future.

LondonPass holders can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the London Wetland Centre for free, saving £8.95 for adults and £4.95 for children.
