Kew Gardens gets greener
Published: Tuesday 1st of July 2008
Already known for its acres of green space, Kew Gardens is now taking green living to the next level by banning plastic bags.
The popular London attraction has announced its intention to phase out its use of plastic bags from this summer.
Kew Gardens will no longer give out plastic bags to its shoppers, replacing them with paper bags instead as of July 1st 2008.
Traders in the Kew Gardens Station area recently began a campaign to make the area free from plastic bags.
However, it is not only the green campaign likely to draw visitors to the botanical gardens, as the Times has listed the venue as one of top ten "sumptuous" garden events taking place this summer.
The annual Summer Swing held at Kew between July 8th and 12th has been recommended to visitors.
"Bring your own picnic and boogie among the bromeliads. And even if you don't fancy dancing, you can always have a night-time wander - the lighting at Kew gives an entirely new perspective on the gardens," the publication notes.
