April 'could be warmest for 10 years'
Published: Thursday 23rd of April 2009
This April could prove to be the warmest in Britain for a decade, forecasters have revealed.
In London yesterday (April 22nd), temperatures reached 21 degrees C, making it hotter than the Italian capital Rome.
Paul Mott, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, says: "It has been consistently several degrees above average for the last few days and is likely to continue like that before cooling down at the start of next week."
He adds that an area of high pressure in the south east is helping maintain temperatures and keep the weather still.
At present, the record for the highest temperature detected in April stands at 29.44 degrees C, which was experienced in Camden Square on April 16th 1949.
Tourists heading to London to enjoy the sunshine can take advantage of the London Pass, which will allow them to soak up the good weather at Kew Gardens free of charge.
