ZSL London Zoo takes stock of a "remarkable" year

Sir Patrick Bateson, the president of ZSL London Zoo, has hailed a "remarkable" year at the top London attraction.

The zoo recently published its annual report detailing the progress made throughout the year.

Young red tit monkeys, Gila monsters Egyptian tortoises and greater one-horned rhinos were among the breeding successes, while the opening of the new Blackburn Pavilion and Cheetah Rock also too place.

The beginning of the year saw the launched of the revolutionary new EDGE of Existence programme which allows the zoo to measure the conservation needs of animals that are not only endangered by also genetically extinct.

ZSL London Zoo also swept the board at the Visit London awards, scooping a total of three prizes.

Sir Patrick commented: "The year has been remarkable, with significant conservation successes in the field, great advancements in science through the Institute of Zoology and many exciting new additions and developments."
