Veteran naturalist still has the 'golden' touch
Published: Monday 3rd of November 2008
A visit by famous naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough to London Zoo seems to have inspired some much-needed reptilian activity.
The mission golden-eyed tree frogs have been in residence at the zoo for several years and have resisted all encouragement to mate until the time of Sir David's visit.
Now keepers report 40 to 50 tadpoles have been produced, reaffirming the younger of the Attenborough brothers' reputation among the zoological world.
In truth, the most likely cause of the renewed affections between the previously rather frigid reptiles was the presence of a new humidifier in the tank.
However, the coincidence has been the cause for a lot of amusement among the Zoo's staff, particularly as Sir David made his visit to speak on the dangers of extinction among reptile species.
London Zoo is one of the foremost zoological attractions in the world, with more than 15,000 animals across over 700 species.
