Save on London attractions with visit to the capital's only living rainforest

Published: Tuesday 30th of March 2010

London Zoo is already well-known as one of the top London attractions for nature lovers - and it just got even better, with the recent addition of a living rainforest at the zoo.

Rainforest Life has been built inside a giant bio-dome and will act as a breeding facility for free-roaming monkeys, sloths, tree anteaters and birds.

The new flagship visitor attraction at the zoo includes real rain, living trees and tropical climates.

But excited visitors will have to do their best to take their time as they walk through the rainforest - the facility will be kept at a sweltering temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit to keep the exotic plantlife alive all year round.

"Rainforest Life will give people a real taste of the rainforest. These forests are living eco-systems which are home to thousands of endangered animals and they are disappearing fast," said zoological director David Field.

London Zoo first opened back in 1827 and many leading architects have contributed to the facility since that time, creating a collection of buildings that includes two Grade I and eight Grade II listed structures.
