Plenty of penguin love at London Zoo this weekend
Published: Friday 13th of February 2009
A very special rockhopper penguin is said to be awaiting an unusually high amount of post this Saturday (February 14th), if last year was any indication.
Staff at London Zoo are expecting Roxy, their most adopted animal, to receive plenty of Valentine's cards from secret admirers after she got a remarkable four in 2008. Not bad for a penguin.
In order to cope with the weight of all the love-struck missives, the zoo has even installed a dedicated post-box in the penguin enclosure in expectation of the weekend's deliveries.
Tim Savage, one of the zoo's team of penguin keepers, said "Roxy is always being recognised by the zoo's visitors and judging by how popular she is we're expecting lots more cards this year."
Roxy even has her own MySpace page and given that she currently has over 400 friends (and rising) it's hardly surprisingly that she's the subject of so much fan mail.
LondonPass holders can gain free entry to London Zoo, saving £15.40 for adults and £11.90 for children.
