New Rainforest Life provides new Things to do in London
Published: Wednesday 19th of May 2010
Tourists are being encouraged to visit the newly opened Rainforest Life London attraction at the capital's zoo, which has been constructed mimic the tropical climate as closely as possible.
London Zoo's new attraction has been built in a giant bio-dome, featuring free-roaming monkeys, sloths and tree anteaters.
A particular facility, which is kept at a constant 80 degrees F, features real rain and living trees, including yellow rattle shaker plants and exotic trumpet trees.
Visitors are brought as close as possible to the animals in the new centre, with the walkway at forest canopy level without any glass separating animals from humans.
Curious red tit monkeys and golden-headed lion and emperor tamarins will no doubt prove a particular draw in what zoological director David Field hopes will give people a "real taste of the rainforest".
He explained: "These forests are living eco-systems which are home to thousands of endangered animals and they are disappearing fast.
“Hopefully by seeing how breathtakingly amazing rainforests are we can encourage ZSL London Zoo's visitors to protect the world's last remaining few."
