National Insect Week launches at London's Chelsea Physic Garden

Published: Monday 23rd of June 2008

The Royal Entomological Society's National Insect Week launches today at London's Chelsea Physic Garden.

This special event is designed to allow people of all ages to learn more about the smallest creatures that roam the earth.

Taking place from today (Monday June 23rd) until June 29th, National Insect Week 2008 is a week-long programme of events.

Wildlife enthusiast Chris Packham will launch the programme today alongside the MP Joan Ruddock at London's Chelsea Physic Garden.

Events will include a public lecture on Mosquitoes: the deadliest animal on the planet? conducted by Professor Lin Field, president of the Royal Entomological Society.

Brits who want to encourage an insect area in their own garden are advised to compost their waste instead of simply disposing of it in order to cut down on garden waste and to create a habitat for different insects.

London Pass holders can receive free entry to the Chelsea Physic Garden.
