Massive food shopping list for London Zoo inhabitants
Published: Friday 18th of July 2008
ZSL London Zoo has been lifting the lid and revealing all about its astronomical shopping list of food required to feed its inhabitants.
The top London attraction claimed on its website that 13 tonnes of carrots and four tonnes of eggs, enough food to feel a small country, is just a small part of the zoo's annual food order.
More than 600 different animal species live at the zoo and have varied dietary needs including cabbages, tomatoes, fish and grapes.
The zoo also utilises a sophisticated computer programme to ensure all the animals receive a varied diet of the highest quality food.
Top chef Gordon Ramsey recently visited the attraction as part of his TV show The F Word. He apparently gave the thumbs up to the gorillas' "Michelin-starred treatment", according to the zoo's website.
