London attractions: Get up close with nature at London Wetland Centre
Published: Monday 5th of September 2011
Nature fans looking for things to do in London should add London Wetland Centre to their schedule.
Touted as "the best urban wildlife site in Europe", the centre spans 42 hectares and is situated next to the Thames.
The impressive range of wildlife at the attraction includes more than 180 species of birds, water voles, amphibians, bats, grass snakes, slow worms, butterflies and moths.
Visitors can watch the intriguing creatures from a heated viewing observatory, hide in six locations in order to get close to the wildlife and enjoy the visitor cinema, which includes a cinema showing a wetlands documentary.
In addition, free guided tours provide a way to learn more about the area, and a regular programme of children's activities take place during the holidays and weekends.
Visitors will also not want to miss the new Berkeley bat house, which was inspired by the work of an award-winning artist.
