London attraction hosts free environmental coral seminar

Published: Wednesday 8th of April 2009

A free public talk on the state of the world's coral will be held taking place at a London attraction next week (April 14th).

The London Zoo will host speakers introducing the latest findings about the state of one of the world's most precious ecosystems.

Coral reefs provide a critical source of food for over a billion people, but are under threat from overfishing, destructive fishing practices and climate change.

The free talks have been organised by senior curator at the zoo Paul Pearce-Kelly and Dr Alex Rogers of the Institute of Zoology at the London attraction.

Starting at 18:00 BST, doors will open at 17:00 and seats will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

Another scientific meeting will take place next month (May 12th) under the theme Extinction risks in common species, focusing on the major decline of those animals that usually escape public attention because of their prevalence.

London Pass holders can receive free entry to London Zoo.
