London Zoo reports on annual headcount
Published: Monday 12th of January 2009
London Zoo has conducted its annual stockade – a headcount of all the animals currently in residence at this much-loved tourist attraction.
The zoo has more than 650 species to record, with everything from penguins to meerkats. Several important events occurred in 2008 which have affected the outcome of this important process.
Harry the warthog was the first such creature to be born at the zoo in a century and Conchita became the UK's first hand-reared white-napped mangabey.
She also became something of an internet sensation as her YouTube video diary became an overnight hit among web-savvy animal enthusiasts the world over.
However, the year was also marked with some sadness as Bobby the silverback gorilla passed away, much to the dismay of his keepers and the many members of the public who signed the online book of condolence which was opened shortly after his death.
LondonPass holders can gain free general admission to the world-renowned London Zoo, saving £15.40 for adults and £11.90 for children.
