London Zoo hits a million visitors for 2008
Published: Wednesday 26th of November 2008
One of the world's great zoos has welcomed a million visitors in 2008.
This year marks the second time that London Zoo has reached this significant landmark since 1991.
To celebrate this historic occasion three-year-old Bader Alnoimi and his nanny, 30-year-old Amanda Denton from Winchester, were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, a highlight of which was when the pair met some golden-headed lion tamarinds in the tropical Clore Rainforest.
Mr Denton said: "It was a great experience and Bader wasn’t fazed by it at all - he really enjoyed meeting the cheeky monkeys!"
James Bailey, marketing manager for the Zoological Society of London, commented on the success of the attraction this year, saying: "Our rising visitor numbers are proof that ZSL London Zoo is doing things right and we will continue improving the zoo for both animals and visitors.
"We are very excited about welcoming the millionth visitor, it’s a real milestone for us."
London Zoo is located in the capital's famous Regent's Park, to the north of the city centre.
LondonPass holders can enjoy free entry to London Zoo, saving £15.50 for adults and £12.50 for children on the winter price rate (effective November 5th).
