London Zoo gets arty with recyclables

Art created with 'found' objects is nothing new – Jean Miro was causing controversy doing just that 40-odd years ago – but a new exhibition at London Zoo highlights how art and recycling can work together, with impressive results.
The Recycled Sculpture Show showcases 21 pieces made of reused objects which might otherwise have found their way onto the scrapheap or into a landfill.
Among the works are a great white shark made from car hub caps, a horse made from discarded wood and, perhaps most striking of all, ceramic trees made from human ashes.
The pieces will be auctioned off to support the London Zoological Society, who operate London Zoo, in continuing its animal conservation work at this much loved and world-famous tourist attraction.
London Zoo was opened in April 1828 and is the world's oldest scientific zoo, having been made open to the public in 1847. It holds around 15,000 creatures across more than 750 species.
LondonPass holders can gain free entry to London Zoo, with adults saving £15.40 and children £11.90.
