Published: Thursday 20th of May 2010

Tourists visiting London Zoo next month may want time their London sightseeing visit with an exclusive lecture by a biology expert.

Professor Linda Partridge will be hosting the 2010 Stamford Raffles Lecture on June 15th at the London attraction, giving a talk on the new biology of ageing.

Her research is focused on the physiological traits involved in organism and animal adaptation, but more specifically ageing and body size.

Her lecture will concentrate on current research around the subject, such as the discovery of single gene mutations that extend the lifespan of laboratory animals.

The lecture will follow a Scientific Awards presentation ceremony at the London Zoo.

Those visiting the zoo may also be interested in a trip to the newly-opened Rainforest Life centre - an enclosed reserve that mimics the tropical climate of the rainforest as closely as possible.

It is home to a number of free-roaming species, including monkeys, sloths and tree anteaters.
