London Zoo's antipodean residents surprised by snowfall

Published: Wednesday 7th of January 2009

Some of the famous residents at one of the capital's most popular visitor attractions – London Zoo – were left a little shocked this weekend.

Snow fell at the Zoo's north London location and many of the animals originally from warmer climes had never see anything like it.

The zoo's website has published photos from their fantastic Outbook exhibit, showing a rather confused-looking emu taking some tentative steps around his snow-dusted surroundings.

The Outback exhibit opened in August 2008 on the site that used to be home to the much-loved polar bears.

It is aimed at raising awareness of the challenges faced by creatures living in extreme environments around the world and is usually a fairly dry and barren landscape – escape when the snow falls, of course.

LondonPass holders can enjoy a day out at London Zoo for free, saving £15.40 for adults and £11.90 for children.
