Harry the piglet proves a hit at London Zoo
Published: Tuesday 15th of July 2008
The first warthog to be born in London Zoo for almost a century is proving to be a wizard attraction for nature lovers visiting the capital city.
Piglet Harry was so named by staff at London Zoo because of the similarities between his species' moniker and the title of the great wizarding educational establishment in JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Describing Harry as a "very special piglet", senior keeper of mammal's Gerald Asher said: "Aziza is very protective and motherly of Harry, at first Little Vern couldn't get near, but now they both take turns to be with him."
Another link to the magical franchise came when London Zoo was the setting for filming in the first ever big screen adaptation - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
In 2000, a scene was shot in the Reptile House of London Zoo in which the title star of the film inadvertently converses with and sets loose a Burmese python.
Meanwhile, visitors wanting to get a glimpse of baby warthog Harry can watch him being fed three times a day at the zoo's Into Africa exhibit.
