Southwark Cathedral

Located in the historic Bankside area and adjacent to London Bridge, Southwark Cathedral is London’s oldest Gothic building. London Pass holders can take home a free souvenir guidebook (available from the shop). If you’re in need of refreshment you can also get a 10% discount of purchases in the Rectory Restaurant.

Originally a priory, the main structure of Southwark Cathedral was built between 1220 and 1420; US university benefactor John Harvard was baptised here and the cathedral has links to Elizabethan theatre, including a memorial to William Shakespeare (Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre Tour & Exhibition is a short walk along the Thames path)

The Cathedral is still very much an active London church and is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Southwark; it’s also surrounded by the historic Borough Market – one of the capital’s biggest foodie attractions.

When you’re planning your visit to Southwark church, remember there are a number of other tourist attractions in the London Bridge area that are free with London Pass including HMS Belfast, The Old Operating Theatre, Museum and Herb Garret and the Tower Of London.

If you enjoyed visiting this London cathedral you may be interested to know that London Pass holders can get free admission to St Paul’s Cathedral as well as other discounts and special offers. Each of these London Cathedrals are a must see for London tourists.
