Transport improved for those looking to Save on London attractions
Last Updated: Fri 2 Oct 2009

Access to London attractions in the Chelsea, Fulham and Hammersmith area has been improved following the opening of a new overground train station.

The new Imperial Wharf station was opened by Mayor of London Boris Johnson and will improve access to attractions such as the Chelsea FC Stadium Tour and the Chelsea Physic Garden.

Costing £7.8 million to develop, the station is connected to routes through the busy Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction.

Part-funded by Transport for London, the new station features step-free access, Oyster ticketing and a staffed ticket office.

From 2011, the station will be serviced by four London Underground trains per hour, with Southern service trains also stopping there.

Mr Johnson hopes the new station will encourage inward investment to bring new jobs to the area.

He added: "The station gives people in this part of London, hitherto poorly served by the rail network, fast connections to the rest of the transport network, and puts Imperial Wharf well and truly on the map."

Improving access to London attractions has been on the mayor's agenda ahead of the 2012 Olympics recently.

Last week, he agreed a deal with disabled artists to ensure they have a role at the Games.
