Top London hotel 'to be powered by food'
Last Updated: Tue 5 May 2009

The Savoy - one of London's most elite hotels - is to create electricity through the use of leftover food in its restaurant, it has emerged.

It is currently undergoing a £100 million refurbishment, which will include a rethink of its green credentials.

"We're working hard to ensure that when The Savoy reopens it will be the most environmentally responsible hotel in London," comments Debra Patterson from the hotel.

She adds that finding a sustainable waste solution is important, with the pledge also extending to food waste.

At present, waste generated from the hotel's Simpson's-in-the-Strand restaurant is recycled by the PDM Group, although this looks set to change in the near future.

It is estimated that the power would be enough to light ten per cent of the 263 guest rooms.

Environmental enthusiasts heading to London might want to consider a trip to Kew Gardens, with the London Pass giving entry at no extra charge.ADNFCR-1693-ID-19152330-ADNFCR
