Things to do in London: visit an underground art exhibition
Last Updated: Wed 4 Nov 2009

An exhibition by artist David Ward began today (November 4th) transforming the floor of London's vast underground P3 space into a huge 'light drawing'.

P3 is a 14,000 sq ft space developed from the vast former concrete construction hall for the University of Westminster's School of Engineering. Built in the 1960s, its large scale offers opportunities for a range of creative activities

The Ambika P3 programme commissions artists and researchers across creative disciplines, particularly those developing large-scale installations and prototyping, where full advantage can be taken of the large and accessible space.

Ward is doing just this by digitally projecting linear drawings from sources including ice skating from the high ceiling of P3 on to the expansive floor.

The artist said: "I think skaters draw on the horizontal plane of ice, engraving the surface and always leaving the drawing behind them."

Viewers who stop by to have a look in between visiting London attractions can view the constantly changing work from mezzanines and can also walk among the projections on the floor.

This new work entitled Rink opens at P3 and will run until November 22nd.
