Things to do in London: see Dame Julie Andrews return to the stage
Last Updated: Thu 26 Nov 2009

Fans of the Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and other classic musicals may be interested to hear that Dame Julie Andrews is returning to the London stage next year for the first time in 30 years.

There are many London attractions and sights to entertain visitors to England's capital, but one of the most popular things to do in London at night is visit the theatre or watch a show.

In a one-off show called An Evening with Julie Andrews, the singer will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and she will be joined by other Broadway and West End stars.

The 72-year-old won a Best Actress Oscar for Mary Poppins in 1964 but was forced to give up singing when she had surgery on her vocal chords in 1997. It was announced last month that she was to go under the knife again to repair the damage.

"To perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment - it is where it all began for me. I am so excited to be able to share a brand new work with audiences," said the singer.

The show will take place at the O2 arena on May 8th 2010.
