Things to do in London: Watch a pantomime

Those visiting London this Christmas to learn about the history of the city and British culture should make sure they do not miss seeing a pantomime - a distinctly English form of entertainment.

Tonight is the opening night of Aladdin at Hackney Empire Theatre with flying genies, tap dancing pandas and a singing camel making an appearance in the musical-comedy theatrical production.

The performance runs until Saturday, January 9th.

Those that do not fancy the panto but also do not want to brave the elements in the evening should consider a visit to the Curzon Soho Cinema.

Set in London's China town, the art-house cinema, with its three screens, bar with free wi-fi, and cafe, is a popular London attraction.

Regular question and answer sessions with film directors are held at the cinema as well as documentary events and midnight movie screenings.
