Last Updated: Thu 24 Dec 2009

Those looking to things to do in London next year other than seeing top sites like Tower Bridge can make their way to the Virgin London Marathon, where they may get to see a footballing legend.

It has emerged that World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles will be the captain of the Telegraph/Brain and Spine Foundation marathon team for the race, which will take place on April 25th 2010.

The former Spurs footballer has told the Daily Telegraph that he was delighted to be asked to take up the role.

He told the paper: "I was delighted, too, that it was as non-running captain, because I really hate running. the furthest I have every run is 90 minutes from box to box."

Previous captains of the team have included Zara Phillips and Des Lynam.

It recently emerged that reigning champions Sammy Wanjiru and Irina Mikitenko will return to defend their London Marathon titles in 2010 and will be part of a strong field of runners.
