The garment is embroidered with the initials VR and has a 56-inch waist, with visitors able to see it for themselves at the top London attraction.
They are now part of the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection after being snapped up at auction for £600.
Auctioneer Charles Hanson told Sky News: "We had three or four Americans who were caught up in the romance of Queen Victoria, I think, and then there is a lady from Vancouver who has a great collection."
Visitors to Kensington Palace still have the opportunity to take in the Diana, fashion and style exhibition, which features 18 dresses from Diana, Princess of Wales.
Seven have never been displayed before at Kensington Palace and include designs from Catherine Walker and Gianni Versace.
