London attraction remembers 'greatest military victory'
Last Updated: Fri 31 Oct 2008

One of London's most popular attractions is to commemorate a crucial period in British military history next month.

HMS Belfast is to host The Hundred Days 1918: Britain's Forgotten Victory, a lecture by prominent historian professor Gary Sheffield.

The Hundred Days in 1918 refers to a series of key victories which lead up to the Armistice of November 18th. This lecture seeks to raise awareness of the significance of these events.

Experts see the period of victories during this period at the end of the war as pivotal in demoralising the German offensive and winning the war for the Allied forces.

However some claim that it has become overshadowed in popular memory by other elements of the war such as the Battle of the Somme, for example.

HMS Belfast is a decommissioned cruiser used in the Second World War and has since become one of the city's best-loved and most enduring visitor attractions.

LondonPass holders receive free entry to HMS Belfast on the South Bank of the Thames, saving £10.30 on the adult price of admission.ADNFCR-1693-ID-18852751-ADNFCR
