Kew Gardens tropical flower festival launchedToday (February 6th) sees the start of Kew Garden's month-long tropical flower festival.
Visitors to England's capital will be able to brighten up their day of London sightseeing in the famously-dismal British weather with a trip to the popular London attraction, where thousands of brightly-coloured species of tropical flowers are on display.
The Princess of Wales Conservatory will provide a welcome escape from the cold outdoors and showcases some fine examples of Oncidium orchids and bromeliads including Guzmania and Vriesea.
Visitors will be able to travel through a colourful tunnel of Vanda and should look out for the sculptural island display covered with hundreds of flowers in the pond at the heart of the conservatory.
A visit to the London attraction can be educational as well as entertaining as people can learn from the garden's guides about the importance of biodiversity and Kew's work to conserve plants and habitats around the world.
Kew Gardens is a short walk from another London attraction - Kew Bridge Steam Museum, where people can see Rotative steam engines, powered by a 1927 Lancashire boiler, in action.
