Kew Gardens gives a nod to the pioneers of leisure time

A festive tradition that began while Queen Victoria was on the throne will make its annual reappearance at London's Kew Gardens.
The world-famous Christmas Ice Rink, situated in the shadow of Temperate House, will open from November 29th to January 4th this winter.
The Victorians are often thought of as the inventors of leisure time in Britain and one of their favourite winter activities was outdoor ice skating.
This might be the coldest time of the year but those braving the wintery conditions can enjoy mince pies and hot chocolate in between skates.
Throughout the winter, outdoor ice rinks spring up all over London, such as in Bishopsgate in the City of London and at Hampton Court Palace, giving visitors to the capital the chance for some al fresco fun.
Temperate House is the largest Victorian glasshouse in the world and is one of the most recognisable aspects of the famous botanical gardens, situated in Kew, West London.
