HMS Belfast sees half-termers get arty
Last Updated: Sun 19 Oct 2008

School children on half-term this autumn will be invited aboard HMS Belfast for all manner for art fun.

Between October 25th and November 2nd, visting children will be able to participate in a number of art activities aboard the ship, which is docked in the river Thames halfway between Tower Bridge and London Bridge.

The Imperial War Museum, which operates the retired battleship as a tourist attraction, has invited young visitors to "be inspired" by their visit and unleash their creativity by drawing their own nautical images based on the famous craft.

HMS Belfast was a key part of the British naval efforts during the second world war. She is perhaps most famous for supporting the D-Day landings in France on June 6th 1944, when allied troops landed on the Juno and Gold beaches as part of the historic operations to bring thousands of military personnel home from the front line.

The craft was decommissioned from service in 1965. It became a floating limb of the Imperial War Museum in 1978 and has since received over 6 million visitors, with more than a quarter of a million reported to have stepped aboard this very famous attraction this year alone.

LondonPass holders can gain free entry to HMS Belfast, which is a saving of £10.30 off the adult price.
