Favourable UK hotel prices 'could benefit London attractions'
Last Updated: Fri 31 Jul 2009

Favourable UK hotel prices could boost visitor numbers to London attractions and other sights around the country this summer, it is suggested.

There has been a rise of three per cent in hotel prices in London this month compared to June, "which does not coincide with the usual summer price increases", explained a spokeswoman for travel portal trivago.

The modest increase could help boost visitor numbers to London museums and London historic buildings.

And despite the two per cent rise in rates, occupancy levels at London hotels have increased, according to STR Global.

They are up 0.9 per cent to 84.6 per cent.

Overall, European hotel prices are seven per cent cheaper this month, compared to July 2008, with a standard double room in one of the top locations down to £90 from £97.

Of the 50 cities in the trivago Hotel Price Index, 38 have seen hotel prices fall or remain the same.

Visitors taking advantage of cheap London hotels can also save money at London attractions with a London Pass.
