Cockney ATM adds to what to see in London
Last Updated: Mon 24 Aug 2009

One ATM operator is turning heads in London after it introduced machines which talk in Cockney rhyming slang.

Users will have the option to have Bank Machine ATMs speaking to them in the London lingo and will be available at five machines for the next three months.

"We wanted something fun and some residents will visit just to have a butcher's," said Ron Delnevo, managing director of Bank Machine.

He said it was the first time the financial services authority had recognised Cockney rhyming slang in such a manner.

People who want to take out a £10 note will be asked if they would like a speckled hen, but not before they have had their Huckleberry Finn (Pin) requested.

Figures from Apacs - the UK payments association, show there were 1.9 billion purchases made on credit and debit cards in the quarter ending in March.

Furthermore, 696 million cash withdrawals were made during this period.
