Britons still love to holiday, figures show
Last Updated: Tue 14 Jul 2009

Many Britons are choosing to holiday on home soil this summer, according to new figures.

Sainsbury's Finance found that 63 per cent of people are taking at least one break in the UK, overshadowing the eurozone where 36 per cent plan to holiday.

"It would appear that rather than sacrificing our holidays, we Britons may even be taking more breaks in a bid to put all the credit-crunch doom and gloom behind us," noted Sam Marrs, Sainsbury's travel insurance manager.

The average Briton spends £784 per person on each holiday they take, the statistics showed, with 16.4 million people planning on taking more than one break during the summer months.

One way of cutting costs this year is by taking advantage of the London Pass, which gives free entry to a number of top attractions across the capital.

Among them is Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, where adults can save £10.50 per ticket and children £6.50.ADNFCR-1693-ID-19263782-ADNFCR
