After visiting London attractions, watch an orchestra perform classical favourites
Last Updated: Wed 23 Dec 2009

Those visiting London over the Christmas period and looking for something to do after the big day has been and gone may want to consider a trip to the Barbican, where they can enjoy the sounds of live orchestras.

For those that want to break up their day of visiting London attractions, there is matinee performance of Vivaldi's masterpiece The Four Seasons, which is to be performed to candlelight on December 27th.

The musicians will play the baroque classics wearing full period costume and will not only perform Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, but other classics such as Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No 3 and Charpentier's Opening of the Te Deum.

Those who are too busy London sightseeing to attend during the day can see an evening performance by the Philharmonia Orchestra on the same day.

The orchestra, conducted by Matthew Wood and joined by Piers Lane on piano, will perform classical music favourites including Mendelssohn's The Hebrides Overture and J Strauss' Emperor Waltz.

To get to the Barbican Centre, visitors should use the London underground and alight at either the Barbican or Moorgate stations.
